Best flag football stat tracking app in 2026

athletical.ly offers a flag football stat tracking app for iPhone and Android. A scorekeeper, a parent, or a volunteer operates it. The intuitive user interface guides the user through the flow of the game. Tap the receiver. Tap who pulled the flag. Each tap produces the box scores, the standings, and players' stat lines in real time.

For leagues still using pen and paper, this is life-changing. The clipboard goes away. So does the Sunday night spent typing up whatever is still legible. The league's website has the results before anyone even reaches the parking lot. Players build a career and have a reason to keep coming back season after season.

Leagues already on an app know their limitations. Very rarely do they even provide a way to capture stats, much less know who actually got open, who dropped the ball, or how far downfield the quarterback is really throwing.

athletical.ly gives a Tuesday night league the numbers you'd see on an NFL broadcast. Every catch is spotted on the field. This produces deep insights, such as average depth of target, yards after the catch, drop rate, and even heat maps of player tendencies. The receiver who swears he never gets the ball finally has a target count. The quarterback who's sure he throws deep finds out where his average target really is.

Best for giving amateur athletes the stats the pros get

Amateur athletes deserve the same treatment as the pros. It doesn't matter whether the league is rec, youth, corporate, or competitive, or whether the game is on a weeknight under bad lights. The people on the field put the work in. What they did out there should be immortalized just the same. A full box score, a play-by-play, a profile that carries every game they have played, and a record book their name stays in.

athletical.ly wins by covering the whole league with one system. Registration, payments, schedules, officials, scoring, stats and website. Every piece of it was built for flag football first, so the rules, the stats and the way a game is tracked are all tailored specifically to the way the game is actually played.

What you get

  • Clock management

Game clock and play clock, both automatically managed. Audio cues help everyone on the field track the state of the clock. Your league decides what stops the game clock: scores, turnovers, penalties.

  • Live play-by-play

The app and the league website show each play at the same moment. Use the play-by-play menu to easily edit any play you may have gotten wrong on the field.

  • A little help from the community

One person on the sideline cannot catch everything, but the people who played can. A captain who spots a wrong stat opens the box score on the website and files a correction, with a note explaining it. It reaches you with the original play beside the proposed one, and you approve or reject.

  • Awards and recognition

The stats inform your choices. Player of the Week and season awards can be grounded in the numbers. No guesswork. Your league defines its own awards, names them, and picks icons for them that represent your league.

  • For anyone who wasn't there

Finalize a game and a recap writes itself from the play-by-play. Missed a game and want a sport article style narration of what unfolded? The recap is for you.

  • Basic and Advanced modes

Advanced captures everything, down to where each ball was caught. Basic is fewer taps a play. It suits a league that wants the score and the stat line.

  • No signal

Every play saves to the phone first, with the full state of the game attached, so a play recorded with no signal is filed correctly once the phone reconnects. Nothing is lost.

  • Subs and walk-ons

2 players short and someone is willing to fill in? No problem, they can be added on the spot, and their stats will be tracked just like everyone else's.

What it costs

$0.99per game participation

Free to download. The league is billed $0.99 for each player who appears in a game, never for absentees. Nothing runs through the off-season, and nothing is due before the first kickoff.

Kickoff screen

The fundamentals

Kickoff

At the referee's whistle, hit the TIME IN pill to start the game and both clocks.

The passing screen comes up by default because most flag football plays are passes, and the QB is pre-selected because they start nearly all of them.

How to choose

Six things to compare across stat tracking apps.

  1. 1

    What it actually records.

Does it just capture the bare minimum like TDs, INTs and Flag Pulls? Doesn't even track basic things like Games Played, Pick 6s, Converts and the like? Does it provide rich data insights like player tendencies, Yards After the Catch, and pass locations?

  2. 2

    How many tools it takes.

Is it one app, or one for scoring, another for schedules, and a spreadsheet for registrations? What you want is a single tool running the whole league. The player who registers and pays is already on the roster when the scorekeeper opens the game. Nobody retypes a name, and there is nothing left to reconcile.

  3. 3

    What happens with no signal.

Rec field doesn't have bars? Check whether plays are stored on the phone and synced when the signal comes back, or if no service means no stats. What about intermittent signal at the far end of the field, is it handled?

  4. 4

    Where the stats end up.

Do you have to download an additional app just to see your stats? Are the stats public and searchable for a coach or scout to find? Do they appear on your own website, or someone else's?

  5. 5

    How mistakes get fixed.

Somebody will tap the wrong player, that's inevitable. Can the play be edited afterwards, will fixing it rewrite the entire history correctly for all players involved? Can a captain raise it themselves without phoning the commissioner?

  6. 6

What it costs, and who pays.

Are you paying during the off-season when your league isn't even operating, or are you paying only for your actual usage? Does it get cheaper as your league grows? Or are parents charged a subscription to see their own kid's stats?

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need a league on athletical.ly to use the app?

Yes. The app scores games that belong to an organization, so the league itself runs on the platform. Creating the organization takes a few seconds from your profile. Whoever creates it is its owner.

Who is allowed to score a game?

Anyone with the Scorekeeper, Admin, or Owner role. The role can be scoped to the whole organization, one sport, or a single league. Assigned games show up in the app under My Games. An unscheduled matchup can even be started from the app as an "Emergency Game".

Can a second person take over mid-game?

Absolutely. The second phone opens the same game and pulls the score, the clock, the possession, and the play count from where the previous scorekeeper left off.

What sports does the app track?

athletical.ly currently specializes in flag football, but it will soon open its platform to other sports, so be on the lookout.

Do players need to install anything?

No. The app is for scorekeepers and officials. Everyone else reads the live score, the box score, the charts, and their own profile on the league's website, on whatever device they already have.

Can we bring the stats we already have?

Moving from another platform is a white-glove service, and it's free. athletical.ly migrates the league's history and sets everything up for you. A league that isn't ready to commit can just dip their toes in and test the app before running an entire season on it.
