Word From The Mouth: Kroakens Edition

Ladies, gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome back to another fun filled article from The Mouth. We are coming down to the final push to the playoffs with only 2 weeks left. As of now 7 of the 8 spots are locked in. The last spot will come down to the last game of division 2 between Krakens and Team Mustard. I'm glad the commissioner listened to me about making it the last game of the season, it adds some suspense. Right now no spots are locked in yet for seeding. I could look into it better but I'll leave that for next week. Enough of an intro and lets get to last week's games.

Game Recaps

Bitter Boys vs Team Mustard (18-13)

Let me start by asking is there some sort of QB controversy going on with the Bitter Boys? Have they given JS the boot? After what Mario pulled off on Saturday maybe. I'm just messing with you guys. JS is gone for a few weeks on vacation and he'll be back for the playoffs. This game had a horrible start to it, 3 possessions with minus 2 yards of offense and we had a rusher interference penalty. On the fourth possession is when we had our first first down and finally a completed pass that went for eleven yards. A few plays later Patrick decided if the offense wasn't going to do anything that he'd take matters into his own hands and take a pick to the house for 6. Team Mustard finally woke up and scored on their next two drives and even got one of two converts. After that happened neither team could get anything done until Bitter Boys scored with 11 minutes left in the second half but they failed on the convert so they were still down by one. Neither team was moving the ball and I thought that we were going to have an upset. That all changed when Bitter boys got the ball back with under two minutes left in the game any points could win it for them, but since we don't have the Rouge like in the CFL and we don't do field goals they need to score a TD or somehow get a safety. Mario was able to stay focused and give his team a chance. The biggest play of the game was a fourth and 3 with less than one minute left as a stop would mean a win for Team Mustard, but if Bitter Boys converted they would still be alive. They got it and scored on the next play, missing the convert so Team Mustard still had a little hope. That was true until Mario picked off the ball as time expired. This was a way closer game then I expected but I wasn't aware of JS not being there. Two weeks left and one team is in the playoffs and the other needs to wait until the last week to see if they are getting in.

Raccoons vs Krakens (45-0)

I won't lie this was a crappy game to watch it was so one sided that it was hard to stand up through the whole thing. At no point did I think the Raccoons weren't going to win this game. Krakens were only able to complete 8 passes for a total of 56 yards through the air plus 8 yards on the ground. You won't win many (if any) games with offense like that. It wasn't a perfect game for the Raccoons either. Sebastien threw two picks to go along with his 7 TDs. Not perfect but when you have a defense like his and you throw that many TDs you should win every game. Krakens QB play was so bad they had three guys try it and weren't able to muster up anything. I'm not sure of what I should write about this game as it wasn't close and the Raccoons didn't make any real spectacular plays, so lets just leave it like that. Blowout win for the Raccoons, is this them gearing up for the playoffs? If so teams better watch out. Krakens still have a chance at making the playoffs, but they need to figure out how to play better. I think they have one last chance to do that and if not then they might not be making the playoffs.

Upcoming Game of the Week: Bitter Boys vs Chuck Norris

This week I had a tough choice as I could have gone with the Barracudas vs Nice TDs, both teams lost last week and Barracudas have been disappointing all season, but instead I chose to go with this game since both teams are on winning streaks. Bitter Boys have 6 in a row and Chuck Norris is on a 3 game win streak. So one of those streaks will come to an end.

QB - Let me start by saying that if JS was here playing it would easily go to Bitter Boys. JS isn't here this week, so I have to assume that Mario will be filling in. Mario has played a few games at QB before, but he is still learning to play the position. Last week he didn't look great, but was able to pull it together when it mattered on the last drive. Mario's short passes and long drives will help you out. Ted has come a long way since the beginning of the season. He now knows who he can trust in certain situations and where he should be going with the ball. He is able to make most of the throws on the field, but still needs to know when to zip it in or to put touch on the ball. He is a great runner that could and should use that a little bit more. Use what you have to get the W. I like Mario and Bitter Boys, but I think that Ted is a better QB between the two of them so the advantage goes to Chuck Norris.

WR - Bitter Boys have 3 quality receivers but one of them is playing QB so they are down to two playmakers in Guillaume and Carl. Everyone else on the roster can catch, but none of they are going to constantly make plays after the catch. The same can be said for Chuck Norris only having 2 real targets. I really feel that if you took Gabriel out of the game that Chuck Norris would be screwed royally. They need more than just Gabe and Goldrick if they want to win. I don't really know who I should go with on this one but I am leaning towards giving the advantage to Bitter Boys since their roster is more consistent. So that's who I will go with, the Bitter Boys.

Defense - Chuck Norris has a decent defense. They are giving 26.6 points a game, which isn't bad, but it's not great either and it puts them somewhere near the middle of the pack. They have managed to get 9 sacks with 6 by new rusher Charles. They have also picked off 12 passes and batted 27 balls away. Bitter Boys have one of the top points against in the league at 17.1 per game. Their biggest weakness on defense is the pass rush. They have only gotten to the other team's QB 5 times. With such a poor pass rush it is surprising that they have picked off 23 balls and knocked 37 passes away. I would love to see what would happen if Bitter Boys had a better rusher what that defense would look like. I have to go ahead and give the advantage to Bitter Boys in this category.

Predictions

This week we have 3 games on deck and from the looks of it I think 2 of them will be really good games. I could be wrong but I'm looking at it from the way the season has gone. Lets take a look and see who I'm picking to win.

#1 Bitter Boys (7-1)

I was debating if I should leave Iron Wolves in at number 3 or give them the boot. I looked at a few things and based on the roster both teams have and games against the same teams. I feel that Raccoons deserve to be here a little bit more. Maybe next week things will change again but I can't promise anything. (Ed's note: August 25th: Iron Wolves 29 - Raccoons 13)

Studs & Duds

I've look over all the games and checked out the stats and have to the conclusion that Ted from Chuck Norris is this week's Stud. He completed 21 of 30 passes for 270 yards and 5 TDs with no picks. He also managed to get 3 tackles. Last time he won this award he did it with his legs, but this time it was with his arm. Maybe if he wins it again it will be because of his defense.

This week's Dud was a tough one I had a few guys to choose from, but this will be the first time I give the award in this division to a full team. So way to go Krakens, you guys blew chunks on Saturday. You were only able to get 64 yards of total offense and you couldn't stop anyone. This had to be the worst performance I've seen all season, and I had to watch Jon play a few times. I look at it this way: you have 1 more game to prove you deserve to be in the playoffs and you can't play much worse.

Now that I'm here at the end of my article I want you all to know that if you expect to win it all you better start playing like it now. Please be safe out there, we are all here for fun and some exercise. No one wants to go to the doctor and tell them we got hurt playing flag football. The doctor will tell most of us we're too old and out of shape for this type of activity. He'll suggest playing golf, and at that point you know you're old and need to have your kids find you an assisted living facility. Once that is done retire from the game.
