Word from the Mouth: Thoughts After One Week - DIV 2 Edition!

Word from the Mouth: Thoughts After One Week - DIV 2 Edition!

Ladies and Gentlemen welcome to week 2. Week 1 went off with good weather except for that first game but got better as the day went along. The games weren't as close as I was expecting, but again it's week 1 and there are a lot of new teams. Every team will improve so don't be discouraged if your team lost. We still have 2 teams without names, so I have decided to name them myself. Take a look to see in my predictions to see what I've called them.

Free Agent 2 vs Vindicators

I want to start by hope that the Bearded Wonder is OK. I saw you hurt your knee last week, get better soon. I want to mention that if your team doesn't have shirts that we have pinnies to wear so you aren't wearing the same colour. I am only mentioning this since Vince was able to walk away with 5 (yes 5!) INTs and took 4 back to the house for 6. Offensively Vindicators didn't have to do much. Aftab will need to improve on his 36% completion rate if they want to be able to compete with some of the stronger teams, unless their defense plays like this all year. Lesniak was the main man for Free Agents 2 but Dane went to him way to often when guys or girls were open on sideline. Dane if you are playing QB next week you should come a little early watch some of the QBs in division 1 and ask them for some pointers on play calling.

7th Rounders vs Settebello

I didn't see much of this game just bits and piece. Both QBs were turnover machines with each team throwing 5 picks. I chalking this up to both teams being new and they are still trying to get comfortable with each other. I would have expected Charles to feed Terry the ball until they covered him and that would have opened up the field for everyone else. Team Settebello if you want a chance to win you need to figure out how to get more out of your guys, 4 catches 17 yards isn't going to get it done. When I looked over the stat sheet I was surprised to see Terry was left with a goose egg in the sack department. I thought he would have had a field day a new team new QB, kind of disappointing. After 1 game Terry you have less sacks then Jon, yup you read that right Jon. I hope that all these turnovers don't become a trend. Week 2 I hope I don't see 5 INTs again from either of these teams.

Iron Wolves vs Raccoons

rn

rn

I had the privilege of watching this game first hand and it was a typical Jon game. Taking your time calling plays, don't make any stupid mistakes let the defense get bored and frustrated while you slowly but surely drive down the field. I guess Jon didn't want a repeat of what happened in the winter playoffs. It was a better game for the Raccoons than in the Preseason as they were able to move the ball a little and Sebastien did throw a TD in this game but he didn't throw any picks either, can't say the same about Jon who threw 2 of them (Ed's note: one was on the last play of the game on an attempt to jam in a TD!). Iron wolves had 3 players with 7 or more catches very impressive. Sebastien, if Phillippe can keep that average at or even around 24 yards per reception that would force a lot of teams back and open up underneath for some of the other guys. The Raccoons have a solid defense now all they need to do is find the offense to go with it. I know that the Raccoons will get better and I hope that the Iron wolves don't get to much better because they are already a very tough team to play against.

Game of the Week

rn

rn

Iron Wolves vs Old School

rn

rn

This game is between 2 of the more experienced teams in division 2. I really hope it doesn't turn out like the last GOTW which was a 1-sided slobber knocker (Ed's note: WHAT?). I hope that Old School got the duck out of the way early and can come out blazing. Defensively don't get out of it when Jon takes the clock down to the final seconds stay focused and ready. You guys have a chance don't turn the ball over and if you can score quickly and put pressure on them then Jon will need to change his game plan. With Dahic and Yuri on the back end you guys are good. Jon will need to find a way to keep to his game plan and try to get the short guys out of position. Goldrick will be all over the place so you might be able to catch him once or twice. Heck Jon, you have been around enough to know what you are doing and how to attack a defense so I won't say anything else about that. Good luck guys and lets make this what a GOTW should be, a back and forth slobber knocker! (Ed's note: WHAT?)

This week we will finally see who ended up snagging the better players from Free agency. This could be fun one to watch or it could become a lopsided affair. I want to know what you guys think of the names I put out there for the Free Agent teams. If you guys like them keep them if you don't come up with your own but if you do stick with it but I want 25% of all merchandise. I hope you liked the read this week and good luck to all the teams. Play safe and have fun.
