Word from the Mouth: Thoughts From Week 2 - Div 2 (the secondest of weeks and divisions!)

Week 2 down and 8 more to get done before the playoffs. Some teams might feel they are going to make it for sure and some might feel that they have no chance, but it's still a long ways away and anything can happen. I coach my son's flag team and I tell them it's not how you start but how you finish. Before I get into last weeks game, I want to shout out to Old school for the win on Saturday. Come see me before or after your game I got something for you. With victory comes the spoils. Jon, no perfect season this year! (Ed's note: whatever, brah)

Vindicators vs D#Nasty

rn

rn

Both of these teams had huge wins in week 1 and I thought that Vindicators were going to walk all over D#Nasty, but I was dead wrong and it was the other way around. Aftab needs to find a way to get more completions than interceptions. Seriously, 7 for 26 with 8 Ints? This isn't your first time throwing the ball. Go speak to Steve from the Outlaws on how to get people the ball, design plays for that 1 guy and if it's not there run. You do have 2 legs, right? If you want to win you will need to help the defense out by scoring a few TDs. They can't be out there all game. As for D#Nasty, at the beginning of the season I knew very little about this team but after 2 weeks everyone better play a perfect game if they want a chance to beat these guys. Kevin did a fabulous job last week spreading the ball around with a 9 man roster and hitting 8 different guys that is quite a feat. Kevin doesn't really have a go to guy, he just finds the open man and launches the ball in his direction. Defensively they seem solid, but I'm not completely sure if they are that good or if the teams they beat up on don't have a capable QB. This is a team to keep an eye on. They could go up to the top or they could fold against a good team, only time will tell. I'm tempted to jump on the bandwagon now, but I think I should wait another week and see and see what happens.

Iron Wolves vs Old School

rn

rn

This was last weeks pick for GOTW and it was a good one between two of the more established teams. One team left very happy and one was making excuses as soon as it ended. It was the first time that Old School beat Iron Wolves, and it was more of a manhandling in my opinion. Sorry Jon, I just call them how I see them. Jon playing the dink and dunk only works if defenses get frustrated and get out of position. I will give credit where credit is due: Old School didn't miss many tackles on first attempts, so there wasn't much YAC. I knew Iron wolves were missing a few guy but I thought with Ian coming back that it would have been enough to squeak out a nail bitter, but it wasn't. Ian but up respectable numbers for his first week back with catches for 53 yard and a TD, but it was on defense I expect more out of him. Hopefully next week they can rebound back with a full squad. Dahic out did what I expected to see from him that day with 202 yards and 4 scores. Good job, but if you want to keep on winning you'll need to spread the ball around a little better as only 3 guys caught balls. Adam had a monster day with 5 catches for 105 yards and a score. Adam, I expect this from you on my team also now. Yuri seems to only know how to catch TDs, can anyone figure a way to stop this GIANT. Matthieu is a having a solid year on offense and I hope he can figure out how to bring up that sack total. The last 2 things I want to mention is that Charles should have been 2 for 2 with 2 TDs passing, but someone tripped over air (no name here) but it would have been his third score of the game. Matthieu, now that you finally beat Jon is the trick to not have Goldrick show up to the game? LOL. Great game both teams. I hope the rematch is just as good.

Settebello vs Nice TDs

rn

rn

This was the one game I thought was going to be boring to watch since I figured it was going to be a blowout, but lo and behold it was a great game right down to the wire. Alex had a decent game and had his team up 13-0 with little time left in the first half. Then what do you know? Kris takes Nice TDs down right before the half to make it a one score game and they were getting the ball back to start second half and that could have sunk Settebello. Nick had a big day with 6 catches for 90 yards and a TD, and his big play came to start the second half with a 45 yard score to bring them within 1 point of Settebello. After that, Alex started to drive his team down the field to try and go up 8 when Adam made a nice break on the ball and intercepted it. Now it was time for Kris to take control of the game, driving the team down the to finally get their first lead of the game on a long 1 yard pass to Greg who might not get much attention on offense, but is one of the better rushers in the division (Ed's note: I'd say league). I thought at this point Nice TDs have the game given that Kris, Adam and Greg would be able to shut down Settebello. Was I ever wrong! These guys went straight down and score on a 32 yard pass from Alex to Phillp. How were both teams able to go back and forth without someone feeling like it was over? Kris did it again folks taking his team down and regaining the lead with only a few minutes left it the game. Had Nice TDs left too much time for Settebello? The way the game had I thought so. Had the final grain of sand fallen from the hour glass on Settebello chances of victory? They started to march. 3 yards here, 4 yards there, a big 21 yards on 4th down to bring them within scoring distance. Settebello had 7 seconds remaining to try and snatch the victory away. It seemed as if Kris was getting a little frustrated. He played 3 game earlier in the day and wanted a clean sweep going 4-0. This is where Kris made it happen. Grabs the ball for an interception on the 2 yard line to seal the game for Nice TDs. Both teams played great it was a slow first half, but the second half was amazing. I think this was the first game of the season that came down to the last play. Best of luck to the both of you for the remainder of the season.

Next Week's GotW: Nice TDs vs D#Nasty

rn

rn

I have chosen this as my game of the week because all Kris and Nice TDs do is win and I want to see what D#Nasty can do against some real competition. D#Nasty has had a cake walk so far this season having surrendered 0 points after 2 games, though I really don't see that continuing this week and I also can't see them putting up 40 either. This is their first challenge and we can see what they are made of. It will be difficult for Nice TDs to figure out how to stop them since Kevin throws all over the place. Will this be the week he throws his first pick of the season? On defense, D#nasty seems to have a lot of ball hawks and it should make it hard for Kris to find the open man, plus he might be under some pressure from the rusher. Guys, remember try to keep him in front of you. Other the Kris, who is going to step up this week? Nice TDs have 3 quality receivers in Adam, Nick and Benjamin. One or even two of them need to step up if they want a chance to win. Defensively they're good and don't make many mistakes. Kris is the leader and everyone knows their role. Greg will be the key to the team success he needs to get pressure fast and all day long; don't give Kevin time to look for the open man. The team that plays as a team and doesn't make the big mistake will win this game. One stop or turnover is all it might take. Go out have fun and show everyone why this is the game they should stick around and watch. Good luck on Saturday guys.

Prediction Time

rn

rn

This is what you all want to see if I pick you to win, some of you will be happy and some mad. Remember, this is just what I think. You still need to play the game. Last week I improved from the first week, going 4 out of 6 bettering my week 1 performance by one game, for a total of 7 out of 12 on the season. If I improve by 1 game every week that means I got 5 of the games right this week, who is going to prove me wrong and cost me a perfect week.
