Word from the Mouth: Week 3 - Blowouts, Disappointments, and Letdowns edition!

The season has just began and already it looks as if a few teams are already thinking of the playoffs. Some of these division 2 teams should and could compete with the division 1 teams. My feeling is that if you win a title in a division you should be forced to move up to the next division especially when you add a few new guys. I know it might not seem fair, but that's how it should work. The league should add a cap for teams or for the players or not allow more than 1 player from a higher division to play on each team. I would choose ratings even if it is simple ratings like 1-5. It will allow teams to be closer in skill level.

Week 2 Recap

I was able to watch 3 games in this division this week and one was a blowout, one was disappointing, and the other was a letdown.

Old School vs Raccoons (32-14)

To me this was a huge letdown as I was expecting this to be a defensive game and it wasn't. Old School dominated by getting 5 picks and were able to return 1 for 6. Phillipe was able to gain more yards than Dahic did both in the air and on the ground. It was easier for Dahic to put up points since he had a short field all day long. Both teams managed 1 sack which surprised me as I thought Alexandre would have had a bigger impact on the game. The most surprising thing about this game to me was the play of Thomas with 3 picks, 1 pick 6, and only 1 catch but it was for 48 yards and a score. This was the first time I got to see him play and now Dahic has some competition for top dog on the team.

Spritz vs D#Nasty (6-19)

Going into the weekend knowing that I was going to watch this game live I was super excited. Both teams are solid and with the rosters they have could be playing for a title at seasons end. Disappointment set in even before the game began, JS was going to be out for Spritz and they were also missing a few other guys. The beginning of the game was hard to watch as neither team could move the ball and it took over 15 minutes before someone was able to score. At half the score was 7-0 for D#Nasty, I never would have thought that going in. Spritz did drive down right before half to get the ball in the red zone with 2 plays left but that ended on the next play with a pick. Spritz had to drive down and score in the second half and D#Nasty was able to capitalize on 2 big plays. I hope next time they play each other it's with a full roster.

Red Raiders vs Sofa King Good (54-13)

I was a little late getting to this one but from what I saw it was a complete blowout. Red Raiders with that roster are far and above the best of the division and it isn't even close. If this roster shows up week after week then they should be playing in division 1. I don't even know what to say about this game. It was a complete mismatch from the start and the score could have been way more, but Red Raiders started to take it easy late into the second half. I'm going to leave it like that. Sofa King Good just need more time to gel together and they will be able to beat a few of the weaker teams, but Red Raiders aren't one of those weak teams.

GOTW (Game of the Week)

Nice TDs vs D#Nasty

QB- In this match up you have Kris with that weird sidearm throwing motion and you have Kevin who stands tall and throws like a natural. Yes it looks weird the way Kris throws, but it gets the ball to where it needs to be plus he has won a title that way. Even though the throws don't look great, Kris is able to throw off balance and while running which a lot of guys can't do with the accuracy that he has. Kevin looks the part of a true QB and he can move around and run, but he only does that if needed. If I was given either of these guys as my QB I wouldn't be upset, but I since I have to pick who I feel has the advantage I have to go with Kris from Nice TDs.

WR- D#Nasty doesn't depend on one guy to get the job done, whoever is open will get the ball. They can all catch and make a play here and there. D#Nasty receivers will get better as the weeks go by and by the end of the season they will be a difficult unit to stop. Nice TDs have probably the fastest guy in the division in Andrew. Nice TDs have a nice trio of receivers with Andrew, Brian, and Demario and, oh, they have a good center in Nicolas. The problem becomes who does Kris get the ball to? This isn't a bad problem to have, any QB would love to have this problem. I have to go and give the advantage to Nice TDs.

Defense- Andrew is Nice TDs best defender, but where is he going to play. He leads the team in sacks and also in picks. If he rushes then it makes them weaker on the back end if he doesn't rush then the defense needs to stay in coverage for longer. I'm sure they will figure it out before the season ends, maybe they only rush Andrew in key situations. The rest of the defense is solid and can hold up against most teams offenses. D#Nasty on the other hand have a few guys who can play. I like Samuel as the rusher as he does a good job of forcing quick throws. He is going to have his hands full this week with the mobility of Kris. If he can keep Kris from moving around and buying time then the backend should be able to hold their own. D#Nasty has all the pieces to be the top team in the division they just need to put it all together. Advantage Nice TDs

Overall this should be an interesting game to see. Normally GOTW is a little hard to pick the game, but not this week. I think both teams are strong and either team can win this one. Yes I did pick Nice TDs in every category and I do think they will pull this one off, but it is going to be a tight game that might even come down to who has the ball last.

Predictions

Week 1 I was perfect, but my perfection didn't last long as 2 teams decided to ruin my streak. That's ok. We also had 2 teams change names. Free Agents #2 became Pipe Fitters and Free Agents #1 became Red Raiders. So now that the name changes have been addressed I can let you know that going 10 of 12 which isn't too bad. This week there should be a few closer games and games between top teams. Picks in bold.

My top 3 have changed up a little after what I saw last week and what I think should be happening moving forward. Here are my choice for top of division 2.

My top 3 is as of right now but I expect some changes after this weeks matchups. (ed's note: Red Raiders not there?)

Final Thoughts

I hope that everyone has enjoyed the first 2 weeks of the season, but from here on out things are going to get a lot harder. Teams are going to start pulling away from one another. Good teams will figure out who to key in on and weaker teams going up against stronger teams are going to look lost. I want to point out what the tie breakers are. First is games played, but at the end of the season you would have all played the same number of games so this means nothing. Second is head to head record and last, but the most important, is points against. Teams need to remember that. At the end of games those gimmie points can turn around and bite you in the butt. (ed's note: running up the score is also bad, since it gives your opponent more chances to score on you!) Always remember play safe and have fun and see you Saturday.
