Word from the Mouth: Week 7 - They're Sofa King Good edition!
By Kevin Kousaie

rn
Hey guys, girls, and children (ed's note: wat?) welcome back to another fun filled article from me 'the mouth'. So as you all know this past Sunday we did our latest induction into the hall of fame and Canada day games. This year it was more organized than last year (ed's note: was it?), but the turnout wasn't as good. We ended up with a nice cool day, last year was almost 45 degrees. That's enough about that now it's time for last weeks recap.

Week 6 Recap
rn
Raccoons vs Spritz (40-33)
rn
This was a game that was very physical with guys bumping and running into each other for the entire first half. Both teams were warned that if this kept it up that the players would be flagged and booted out of the game. That calmed everyone down and allowed for a better second half. Phillipe did a great job throwing the ball in this game, but he also did a magnificent job of mixing in the run. He might not have run for lots of yards, but he did enough to keep the defense watching him. Spritz played a good game and had a chance at the end to tie it up, but JS threw a pick and that ended their chance. JS said after the game that the loss was on him and that he didn't have a good game and let the team down. JS will forget how this one ended and move onto next week.

rn
Old School vs Nice TDs (38-20)
rn
I spoke to one person from both teams after the game and this is what was talked about. I have been down on the way Dahic has played QB for most of the season so that was what was brought up. I know that Old School hasn't helped him much catching the ball, but he showed why he was the top QB a few seasons ago. Hopefully for Old School his funk is over. For Nice TDs this team is struggling with consistency. They have a good solid roster but not everyone comes out to play. Some of the team just show up and don't seem to give it their all. If Nice TDs want to be a contender they need to figure it out and fast. You no longer can win with 1 or 2 guys balling out, everyone needs to do what they can to help.
rn
rn
D#Nasty vs Centurions (37-31)
rn
So this game started out as 5 on 6 in favour of the Centurions which was a great thing. You think that when you have an extra player that you should be able to jump out to an early lead and be able to get a stop. That was not the case and D#Nasty had a 24-6 lead at half and they were still only 5 players. Centurions had 2 players with 10 or more catches which is good if you are trying to slow the game down, but Guillaume threw 5 picks which should never happen when you are 5 receivers vs 4 defenders since D#Nasty chose to rush someone. You will always be able to find someone open when you have an extra guy. This game was the game if any that D#Nasty should have lost, but good teams will always find a way to win and they did.
rn
rn
Iron Wolves vs Space Apes (24-45)
rn
Space Apes were missing a few players including their QB. That being the case you figure that they would lose the game, but they ended up bring in Simon Duchesne from another league. He filled in nicely and had no problems picking apart Iron Wolves defense especially when they are missing a few like Josh and Dom. This game wasn't close and with the spare QB it shouldn't have been. Both teams should make the playoffs and might get to meet again with their real rosters. As for what happened on the Iron Wolves side Jon loves the short game and it showed in this game and 90% of those passes were short. It was nice to finally see Catherine "Rib Eye" Boucher get a sack where she use to be so dominating. I know she hasn't played every game this season, but the defense depends on "Rib Eye" getting after the opposing QB.
rn
rn
Sofa King Good vs Pipe Fitters (51-6)
rn
Before the game started we all knew that one team was going to get their first win of the season. Going into this game I knew that Sofa Good Kings were worried that if they lost this one they weren't going to win a game all season. That doubt didn't last long as they took control of the game right away and didn't let up. I will say that I might not be a fan of Pipe Fitters QB Gurugyan, but this was by far his best game of the season. He just needs to stay calm and focus on making the easy throws instead of looking for the big plays all game long. Go short and get things going that way before trying to take the deep ball. You should watch some of the division 1 QBs who work their way down the field.

GOTW (Game of the Week)
rn
Nice TDs vs Red Raiders
rn
QB- Kris is a good QB when he is calm and not screaming and yelling at his team. Kris can make every throw that you need to win games. I know it doesn't look pretty but it gets the job done and his team is use to it. Michael is a physical specimen big, tall, strong and has a head on top of his shoulders. I have had the pleasure of playing with him and the ball is out fast and hard. The only knock I might have on him is sometimes the accuracy isn't always there, but we can't have it all on every throw. Advantage goes to Red Raiders.
rn
rn
WR- Nice TDs have a great one in Andrew, but after him there is a drop off. Brian is solid when he chooses to be but that isn't always the case. Demario could help them out if he shows up. Red Raiders have a whole list of guys who can ball out. Marvin and Shawn have been the top 2 targets for the team, but everyone has caught balls and at any time anyone of them can go off and have a huge game. Most of them are big, tall, and fast. I don't see how Nice TDs is going to stop that so advantage to Red Raiders.
rn
rn
Defense- Red Raiders have 10 Sacks total that led to 5 safeties and they have also picked off 15 passes and taken 4 back for scores that's not to mention the 20 balls knocked away. Those are very good numbers and are hard to match. Nice TDs have 8 sacks and 10 picks and they took 3 of those back for 6 plus they have knocked away 15 balls. Both teams have similar numbers, but I think the difference will be the person calling the defense and knowing who calls the defense and having tried to get him to play on one of my teams I have to give the advantage to Red Raiders.
rn
I know that I have given all the advantages to Red Raiders and that is because I think they will win the game and if the Nice TDs don't bring their A game it might not even be close. Nice TDs get your guys out because I want to see a great match up and not a blowout.

Predictions
rn
So now this what everyone has been waiting for to see if I have them winning this week. Last week I went 3 for 5 which isn't great but it is still a pass. On the season I have gone 26 out of 36 which is 72.2% so I'm right a lot more then I'm wrong. This week has a few challenging games but my winners are in bold.
rn
rn
Spritz vs D#Nasty
rn
Dawgs vs Old School
rn
Pipe Fitters vs Iron Wolves
rn
Nice TDs vs Red Raiders
rn
Sofa good Kings vs Space Apes
rn
rn
That's who I've picked to win this week.
rn
rn
Power Rankings
rn
This week a few things have changed and we will see how long it can and will stay like this. 2 teams have really impressed me and the third team is a tossup every week no one really wants that spot.
rn
#1) Red Raiders
rn
#2) D#Nasty
rn
#3) Old School
rn
rn
Old School has cracked the top 3 finally. I think this is overdue but it will depend on their QB how long they will be up here. The top 2 teams are far and above the rest of the teams, but it only takes 1 loss to get bumped down or even knocked off.
rn
rn
Final Thoughts
rn
So with only a few weeks left before playoffs, teams are starting to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. If you want to be battling it out for the title get your team out the rest of the way and bring you're a game. That is it, you want in then you need to ball out and show you deserve to be in it. Remember play safe and have fun.
